Fees have increased this year for fish and boating licenses, but that may be on hold if new legislation passes.
Fishing licenses now cost $23.50 compared to the previous $21. A boating title meanwhile jumped from $43 to $58.
But, a bill proposed by State Representative Scott Conklin would see those increases rolled back. He says the state instead could tap into their budget surplus to cover the necessary funding to the agency.
He says the rate hike sends the wrong message to outdoor enthusiasts—a group the state is looking to grow in the future.
