The governing body of high school athletics in Pennsylvania is now permitting student athletes to make money off of their own name, image, and likeness.
The decision does come with a number of stipulations. The PIAA says money cannot be offered to students so they will transfer; students cannot represent their team in any promotions; students are banned from endorsing adult items like alcohol, tobacco, or gambling.
PIAA officials say they expect few athletes to take advantage of the rule but wanted to have a policy in place in order to protect student athletes and their families.
