Richard J. “Dick” Helfrich Jr., 69, of Karns City, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, January 2, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
Richard was born in Butler on February 21, 1953. He was the son of Lois A. Byers Helfrich of Fairview and the late Richard J. Helfrich Sr.
He was a 1971 graduate of Karns City Area High School and had been employed at Sonneborn in Petrolia. Dick retired from the shipping department in 2013 following 41 years of service. He was a member of the fraternal order of police Brady Paul Lodge #54 Butler, the North Butler County Hunting and Fishing Club. Dick spent his life camping, fishing and hunting with his wife Dawn, their sons and grandchildren. In recent years Dick found great enjoyment at the camp he and Dawn purchased near Pymatuning Lake, spending time there with his family and friends.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dawn C. Corbett Helfrich, whom he married in Fairview on March 19, 1977. Also surviving are two sons, Michael J. Helfrich and his wife, Tiffany and Corey R. Helfrich and his wife, Megan, all of Butler; Dick was affectionately “Gramp” and “Pap” to his five grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Cadin, Conner, McKinley, Merrek, and Mya; two sisters, Coleen Smith and her husband, William of Aliquippa and Melanie Smith and her husband, Robert of Coudersport, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Helfrich Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy, Karns City with Bishop Alan Ion, church pastor, officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and lunch following the service. Interment will be at Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
