After closing in November due to a landslide, a portion of a local road in Penn Township has been reopened to one lane traffic.
PennDOT officials say the stretch of Meridian Road in between Smith Road and the railroad tracks in Renfrew has stabilized enough to allow for the installation of a guiderail.
Advanced warning signs now alert drivers to stop signs at both ends of the portion of the road affected by the landslide. Although conditions could change, the current arrangement allows for winter maintenance as well as ensures safe travel for vehicles.
Plans are underway for a permanent fix which could involve shifting the location of the road but no timetable is available as the design process continues.
