A local lawmaker is joining with colleagues to put forward a package of bills that they believe will reduce fraud and wasteful spending in state government.
Republican Representative Stephenie Scialabba recently introduced a bill that permits fines against medical providers if a procedure is botched when it should have been easily avoided.
Federal law bars reimbursement for these kinds of issues so taxpayers are usually forced to foot the bill but Scialabba would like to see penalties placed on Medicare providers found to be responsible.
This proposal is part of a package of bills dealing with fiscal issues from four other Republican lawmakers in the State House who believe that the measures would have support from Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro.
