Congressman Mike Kelly is co-sponsoring a bipartisan bill that looks to address the removal of lead water service lines.
The Republican from Butler recently announced that the bill, known as Financing Lead Out of Water, or FLOW Act, would remove federal red tape surrounding the process of public water utilities to issue bonds.
The bill would allow for a streamlining of the IRS tax code in a way that would permit the low-cost financing for replacement of private lead services lines.
Currently, laws regulating lead in drinking water are being updated around the county but the problem cannot really be addressed until the financing is secured.
