Pennsylvania’s State Senate recently heard from experts about a possible mileage fee for electric vehicles.
Nick Miller is a policy analyst and he testified that charging a flat three cents per mile or a $380 annual fee, the state would generate an estimated $18 to $24 million in revenue.
“That is not an amount to scoff at, but PennDOT estimates that it takes $9.3 billion a year in additional funding for our roadway system. Therefore, EVs are a piece of a much larger puzzle regarding alternative funding solutions. Not the sole solution,” Miller said.
The number of electric vehicles in Pennsylvania has grown significantly over the last three years, with currently over 63,000 EVs registered with the state.
