Officials with the state Department of Transportation were in Harrisburg testifying about the current state of mass transit.
Acting PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll says that the number of riders has fallen since the pandemic.
“The change in the way employers and employees interact now with remote working, working from home, and not everyone in the office for five days a week. Even though we’re past the pandemic, there’s been a change in the way people navigate to and from work,” Carroll said. “So, the need for transit has changed.”
Carroll says that despite the drop, there are still many people that rely on public transportation. He says that it’s hard to adjust the delivery models on the fly, but it’s a necessary task for PennDOT to figure out.
