The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-1 last night. Bryan Reynolds had three hits in the game, including another home run. He joins Barry Bonds and Reggie Sanders as the only players in franchise history to homer in three of the first five games of a single season. His four homers through five games are tied with Sanders and Hall of Famer Willie Stargell. (Sanders had four homer in five games in 2003. Stargell in 1971. Bonds had hit three homer in the first five games of the 1992 season.)
Roansy Contreras started for the Bucs last night. He pitched into the sixth inning, allowing one run on three hits, walking one and striking out two. David Bednar earned his third save with another perfect ninth inning.
The Pirates had to put catcher Austin Hedges on the seven day Injured List due to a concussion. They brought up Tyler Heineman from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace him. He had one of the Pirates five hits and scored a run last night.
