Charlene May Stevenson, 81, of Butler, PA passed away and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 9, 2023.
Charlene was born on May 18, 1941, in Erie, PA, to the late Lewis Novak and the Late Edna Goughler Novak.
After Charlene graduated from Zelienople High School, she attended college in Minnesota to become an airline stewardess. While she never joined the airline industry, Charlene employed her talents as J.C. Penney clerk, a phone operator, a waitress, a cook at Camp Bucoco, a map machine mogul, an antique dealer, and an event planner for Tea Parties. She spent 10 years in the manufacturing industry at Mine Safety Appliance to pay for her kids’ college education.
Charlene was a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America and most recently attended North Main Street Church of God. Through church, she gained many lifelong friends who vacationed together and did life together following biblical principles. She always served within the church in many capacities. Leading crafts in youth ministries, organizing adult Sunday School Class events and cooking meals for Church events were her bread and butter. She involved herself in many Bible studies and trusted in the Lord’s redemptive plan at all times and circumstances.
She made her family a priority. Charlene loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s many events. Always telling them she loved them and was proud of them. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening (Oak Hills Garden Club), biking, and traveling. She was a passionate card player and always participated in “card clubs” throughout her life.
Charlene is survived by her husband of 62 years, William D. Stevenson, who she married on January 14, 1961; one son, David (Tracy) Stevenson of Butler; five grandchildren, Erik Cupps, Stephanie Cupps (Jared) Arienzo, Tristen Stevenson, Tori Stevenson, and Landon Stevenson; three great grandchildren, Kendall Cupps, Natalie Arienzo, and Courtney Arienzo; and one sister, Mary Lou (Ben) Langley of The Villages, FL.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in by her daughter, Lisa Michelle Cupps, and her brother, Timothy Novak.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA 16001.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster PCA Church, 420 North Main Street, Butler, PA with Pastors Andreas Baily and Noah Baily, nephews of Charlene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Seneca Hills Bible Camp Girls Bathhouse project (Give – Seneca Hills), an organization Charlene supported throughout her life.
