The Pittsburgh Pirates shutout the Detroit Tigers 8-0 Wednesday afternoon and split their two-game series. Pirates starting pitcher Rich Hill allowed just one hit over six innings and struck out seven for his fourth win of the season. The bullpen tossed three hitless innings to close the game. The Pirates had 14 hits in the game, led by Bryan Reynolds who had three hits. Starling Castro hit his fifth home run of the year.
The Bucs host the Arizona Diamondbacks for three games beginning Friday night.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0 Wednesday. The Pirates are now one game back in the National League Central.
