Butler County is asking the state for more funding for mental health services.
The commissioners approved a resolution that requests a total of $150 million more for counties in mental health services. They say counties have not received an increase in funding for mental health in the last 10 years.
Governor Josh Shapiro has proposed an increase in $20 million for counties in this year’s budget. Counties say they need another $30 million.
Shapiro also proposed $100 million to go to schools for mental health services, but county leaders say they have the services already in place and could better leverage those dollars for schools.
Butler County currently receives a base of $5.2 million from the state for mental health services. The county also help assist in treatment for nearly 1,200 students this school year.
