The Miami Marlins shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Florida and took three of four games in their series. Pirates starting pitcher Johan Oviedo was the tough-luck loser, allowing just one run over seven innings of work. He allowed six hits, but did not walk a batter and struck out six. Andrew McCutchen had two of the Pirates five hits. None of the Pirate hits went for extra-bases, and they struck out 12 times in the game.
Rodolfo Casto, Jae-Hwin Bae, Austin Hedges and Jack Suwinski are on a hitless streak that has totaled 0-for-their-last 86 at-bats. Suwinski has not had a hit in his last 29 at-bats, Bae in his last 22.
The Pirates are off today, then begin a six-game homestand Tuesday when they host San Diego. They have lost 11-of-12 games.
The Bucs fell 4-3 in 11-innings Saturday after winning 3-1 Friday night to snap a 10-game losing streak.
The Pirates brought up another first round selection with the debut of infielder Nick Gonzales Saturday. He went hitless, but scored a run in his debut. He struck out as a pinch-hitter Sunday.
