Fred Savannah, Jr., age 86, of Butler, passed away Thurs. July 6, 2023, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Butler on May 29, 1937, he was a son of the late Fred Savannah, Sr. and Susie Betro Savannah.
Fred was retired from the City of Butler, where he worked as a custodian. He had previously been employed by Pullman Standard in Butler and the Halstead and Mitchell Company in Zelienople.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. He also belonged to American Legion Post 117 and the Moose Lodge of Butler.
Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams.
He is survived by one son, Anthony Paul Savannah, of Butler; three brothers, Joseph A. Savannah and his wife, Phyllis, of Butler, Donald A. Savannah and his wife, Darlene, of Pittsburgh, and Bernard M. Savannah and his wife, Susan, of Butler; and three sisters, Frances Vavro, of Parma, Ohio, Mary Rose Sassone, of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Debra Albert and her husband, Robert, of Butler.
He was also a proud uncle of a number of nieces and nephews. He loved them dearly, and they were of great importance in his life.
Friends will be received at All Saints Parish, Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler, on Thursday from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
The celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Rev. Philip Farrell officiating.
Inurnment will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the church by American Legion Post 117, VFW Post 249, and American Legion Post 778.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Fred’s memory be made to American Legion Post 117, 413 S. Main St., Butler, PA 16001.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler.
