The Pirates completed three more trades prior to the MLB deadline yesterday. General manager Ben Cherington sent pitcher Rich Hill and first baseman Ji-Man Choi to San Diego in exchange for first baseman Alfonso Rivas, a 24-year old minor league pitcher and a 17-year old Dominican outfield prospect.
The Bucs dealt catcher Austin Hedges to the Texas Rangers in exchange for international pool money and sent infielder Rodolfo Castro to Philadelphia for left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter, who has a style very similar to Rich Hill. He has appeared in 50 games with the Phillies and made 24 starts with a 4.56 ERA.
One of the biggest deals on the final trade day saw the New York Mets send Justin Verlander back to the Houston Astros. Verlander had won the American League Cy Young Award last season in Houston, and had signed a free agent deal with the Mets in the off-season.
