The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-1 last night at PNC Park. Starting pitcher Johan Oviedo allowed just the one Tigers run over seven innings to earn his fifth win of the year. He allowed six hits, two walks and struck out five. Rookies Liover Peguero, Endy Rodriguez and Alika Williams combined for four of the Pirates eight hits. Peguero hit his third home run of the season. Rodriguez hit his second triple in the last week. David Bednar earned his 22nd save with a perfect ninth inning.
The Bucs and Tigers complete their series this afternoon at 12:35pm. WISR will join the broadcast following the Noon News.
The Pirates are now 10 games under .500 at 48-58. They are 9-1/2 games behind first-place Cincinnati. The Reds were defeated 20-9 Tuesday by the Chicago Cubs, who are now four games back in the N.L. Central.
