The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds split a doubleheader Sunday after their Saturday game was rained out at PNC Park. The Bucs won the opening game 4-2 with David Bednar earning his 24th save of the year. Mitch Keller allowed one earned run over six innings. He did not figure in the decision. The Pirates scored three runs in the seventh to pick up the victory thanks to a Jared Triolo pinch-hit home run. It was his first major league round-tripper.
Manager Derek Shelton, pitching coach Oscar Marin and bench coach Don Kelly were all thrown out of the second game, which the Reds won 6-5 in 10-innings. Bryan Reynolds hit two home runs in the night-cap.
The Pirates open a three-game series in New York tonight against the Mets. First pitch is 7:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:45pm.
