A local man is facing federal drug charges in connection with an investigation into gang activity in Pittsburgh.
According to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice, 44-year-old Gilbert Smith of Bruin is one of 17 people to be indicted by a federal grand jury for violating narcotics and gun laws.
The indictment alleges that between December of last year and this month, Smith conspired with many people to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and crack.
Smith is facing five to 40 years in prison if convicted as well as a possible fine of up to $5 million.
