Born on September 10, 1930, in Tallapoosa, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late George W. Brooks and the late Carrie E. Camp Brooks.
Gladys graduated from Oxford High School in Alabama. She worked as a Central Sterile Tech at Butler Memorial Hospital, until retiring in October 1994 but continued to work occasionally. Gladys was a member of Whitestown Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, card clubs, and crossword puzzles. She liked to listen Southern Gospel Quartets
She is survived by one son, Charles M. Himes, Jr.; three daughters, Sharon (Bill) Sones of Lakeland, FL, Charlene Himes of Greensburg, PA, and Dianne (David) Fox of York, PA; four grandchildren, Matthew Sones, Allison Fox, Kara Fox, and Mark Fox; four great-grandchildren, Liam Sones, Violet Sones, Elise Sones, and Samuel Sones; two sisters, Elgia Easterwood of Anniston, AL, and Sylvia Minto of Lyndora, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Himes, who she married on October 20, 1951, and who passed away on April 1, 1960; four brothers; and three sisters.
Friends will received on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Whitestown Road Baptist Church, 409 Whitestown Road, Butler, PA 16001. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Robert Hurd, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Whitestown Road Baptist Church, 409 Whitestown Road, Butler, PA 16001 or the Good Samaritan Hospice House of Wexford, 146 Neely School Road, Wexford, PA 15090.
