A Butler woman is facing numerous charges accusing her of physically abusing young children at a daycare center in Center Township.
29-year-old Taylor Titley is facing five felony counts of aggravated assault of children. She is also charged with multiple misdemeanors.
Police say the abuse happened at Sheryl Buffington’s Daycare and Preschool Palace on Sunset Drive.
According to charging documents, the five victims ranged from two-years-old to as young as a six-month-old.
The investigation began in June of this year, when a Childline Report said a six-month child had suffered a fracture in his right arm. Police say a doctor with Children’s Hospital determined the broken arm happened on June 13th—which is when the child was in the care of the daycare.
Throughout their investigation, police interviewed current and former employees at the daycare who said Titley worked in the infant room full-time. The employees described situations on multiple occasions where Titley would throw children onto their sleeping mat from about three-to-four feet off the ground. She also allegedly would grab infants by their arm and pull them off the floor.
Employees also told police that Titley would complain about the children crying and yell at the children on multiple occasions.
Sheryl Buffington told our newsroom “we are deeply troubled by the news and allegations. We have been fully cooperating with police and the investigation. The safety of our children is our top priority.”
