A heavy police presence was at a church property in the Meridian area Tuesday morning.
Butler Township Police responded to an incident that happened at the parish home at St. Conrad’s Church on Buttercup Road.
According to a statement from the Diocese of Pittsburgh, police were responding for a wellness check on a priest who lives at a home on the property. Police say upon arrival, they discovered this to be a mental health issue that involved weapons.
Police say the incident was resolved peacefully and no shots were fired. However, there were several guns removed from the house as part of the investigation.
A diocese spokesperson said that the priest has been on a leave of absence for health reasons, calling it a “challenging medical condition.”
The priest was taken to the hospital for evaluation and continued treatment according to the diocese.
