A local lawmaker is putting forward a bill that she believes will uphold parental rights.
Republican Representative Stephenie Scialabba recently introduced a bill that requires school districts to notify parents if the district enters into a contract with an online mental health care provider.
Scialabba is particularly concerned about Pennsylvania awarding a statewide $3 million contract to an online platform called Kooth which is currently utilized by 30 districts and is freely available for other districts.
Scialabba’s bill would direct any districts utilizing Kooth to obtain specific written consent from parents, share records with parents, and permit parents to be in the room with the child while the child uses the service.
