Congressman Mike Kelly is weighing in on the run for Speaker of the House.
Kelly was supportive of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy keeping his job, however McCarthy was ousted from the leadership position.
Kelly told our newsroom that he is throwing his support behind Louisiana Republican Steve Scalise.
“This is the guy who has lived every single step that is important to our government,” Kelly said. “I love people with resumes that lead me to believe they will be the strongest candidate.”
Kelly says Scalise has served both as Whip and Majority Leader for Republicans. He also appreciates the personal battles Scalise has been though, including recovering from being shot in Washington D.C. and his current battle with cancer.
Kelly says it’s important to resolve the Speakership matter quickly, as another deadline for government funding is set to expire in November.
