The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 last night in the season opener at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens allowed three unanswered goals, and an empty-net goal after building a 2-0 lead. Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust scored for the Pens. Goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 33 of 36 shots.
The Pens visit Washington Friday night.
The game began the 19th season for Sidney Crosby with the Penguins. Only 11 players in NHL history have been with one team longer. The 18 seasons that Crosby, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin have now been together, is the longest tenured trio of teammates in the history of any North American sports league.
