State police in Lawrence County have made an arrest in a fatal shooting that happened last month.
In the early morning hours of September 30th, police were called after a vehicle was found over a hillside along River Road near Ellwood City.
When police got on scene, they found 39-year-old Julie Wegmiller dead due to an apparent gunshot and her husband 40-year-old Edwin Wegmiller critically injured from a gunshot.
Edwin Wegmiller remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Over the weekend, police arrested 28-year-old Yohance Mercer-Huffman. He’s charged with criminal homicide and additional charges.
Police say that the victims met Mercer-Huffman earlier in the night and went to a couple of bars together. However, the Wegmillers tried to leave a home, when Mercer-Huffman got into the back of the car and shot them both.
Mercer-Huffman also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He is now in the Lawrence County Jail.
