Butler high school cross country runner Drew Griffith won his second consecutive WPIAL Class 3A Cross Country championship Thursday. Drew ran the White Oak course in just over 15:05 despite battling an illness. A Butler runner has now won the cross country title four straight years and in five of the last seven. Butler’s Owen Dressler finished fourth.
North Allegheny held off Butler 59-67 to win the team title.
North Catholic runner Madeline Meeuf won the Class 2A girls championship and helped lead the Lady Trojans to the team title. North Catholic placed three runners in the top-10 of the field to defeat Montour 80-99.
The top 15 runners in each of the WPIAL classifications advance to the state tournament. Knoch runner Ava Santora finished 12th in the 2A championship and is one of the state qualifiers.
