High School Sports from the weekend:
–The unbeaten and defending PIAA champion Seneca Valley boys soccer team suffered a 3-2 shoot-out loss to Norwin in the WPIAL Class 4A Quarterfinals Saturday. After the game was tied 2-2 in regulation, Norwin won the shoot-out 4-2.
–The Butler boys soccer team defeated Peters Township 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the WPIAL Class 4A Quarterfinals. Drew Knight was in net for the Golden Tornado shutout. The Golden Tornado will meet North Allegheny Tuesday in the Semifinals.
–The Freeport girls were knocked out by South Park 5-1 in the Class 2A Quarterfinals.
–The North Catholic girls fell to Shady Side Academy 3-1, also in the 2A Quarterfinals.
The undefeated Mars girls will meet South Fayette Tuesday in the Class 3A Semifinals.
The Knoch girls tennis team were eliminated from the PIAA Class 2A Team playoffs following a 3-0 loss to Lower Moreland in the Semifinals Saturday.
WPIAL Girls Volleyball Playoffs:
–Freeport shutout Shenango 3-0 in the Class 2A Quarterfinals. The Lady Yellow Jackets get Avonworth in the Semifinals Tuesday. Freeport is the defending WPIAL champion.
–North Catholic defeated Trinity 3-1 in the Class 3A Quarterfinals. The Lady Trojans meet Oakland Catholic Tuesday in the Semifinals.
Seneca Valley will meet Canon-McMillan Tuesday in the Class 4A Semifinals.
–Grove City runner M.J. Pottinger won the District 10 Class 2A championship Saturday, helping to lead his team to a sixth-consecutive District 10 Cross Country team title.
