The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is announcing preparations for the upcoming winter season.
PennDOT operates 165 plow trucks, 16 anti-icing trucks, and six variable speed limit sings throughout District 10. These vehicles will cover just under 7,000 miles. District 10 includes Butler Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson counties.
Drivers are also being reminded of safe driving practices during the winter season:
- Turning on low beams when visibility is low even during day time hours
- Turn off cruise control when roads are snow covered, wet, or icy
- When roads have high increased snow, accumulation cut speeds to half and when icy slow to a crawl. Along with keeping increased distant from other cars
- Always have a brush/scraper in your car along with extra food, water, blankets, and phone charger
- Be patient with snowplows. It takes one hour for an inch of snow to drop snowplow routes are often four hours. So by the time a blow returns another four inches may have come down.
