Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is suing a local landlord over allegations of unlawful leasing and debt collection practices.
Attorney General Michelle Henry recently announced the filing against Butler-based A. R. Building Company which owns 20 apartment complexes across the state.
Henry alleges A.R. Building Company violated the Consumer Protection Law by overcharging for security deposits, making misrepresentations on the lease form about what actions are lawful, and illegally threatening customers regarding debt collection.
The attorney general is seeking civil penalties and restitution including refunds of inflated security deposit charges along with a prohibition against illegal leasing and debt collection in the future.
