Richard L. “Dick” Gardner, 80, of Butler passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at UPMC Hamot in Erie PA.
Born January 2, 1943 in Butler, he was a son of the late Charles B. and Lucille E. (Cousins) Gardner.
He retired from the silicon department at Butler Armco Works in 1995, following 31 years of service.
He was a veteran of the United State Navy.
He was also a lifetime member of the Moose # 64, American Legion Post #117, V.F.W Post # 249, D.A.V in Butler, A.A.R.P and the Elks #170 as Past Exalted Ruler, which he frequented often to spend humorous times with friends and members.
Dick served on the Board of Directors for Community Care Connections as well as the Board of Directors for United Cerebral Palsy of PA.
He served as a volunteer for the VA Medical Center in Butler.
Dick was a well-known social member of the community and his passion was to give more of himself by volunteering much of his time to manage charitable organizations. He was also known for having fun and enjoyed annual road trips to Las Vegas, stopping at multiple clubs along the way, always making new friends with his priceless witty sense of humor.
Surviving is his son, Richard L. Gardner, Jr. of Butler and his daughter, Cathy A. Gardner of Hermitage, PA.
His granddaughter, Kristen Minda of West Pittsburg, PA
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles B. “Chuck” Gardner Jr.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. Butler from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Friday. Military Honors will follow at 7:00 pm Friday at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park. A Celebration Of Life Service will be held at Butler Elks Lodge at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Care Connections or a favorite charity.
