The Steelers lost a chance to inch closer to first place in the AFC North by falling to the two-win Arizona Cardinals, 24-10.
The loss, which included game-ending injuries to quarterback Kenny Pickett and two other starters, dropped the Steelers’ record to 7-5. And they have the New England Patriots Thursday night.
ESPN reported that Pickett will be sidelined for a couple of weeks.
New England will enter that game with two wins on the season.
The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Alex Nylander from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) Sunday evening.
This marks the second time this season Nylander has been summoned to the NHL roster. Previously recalled Nov. 22, Nylander has appeared in three NHL games this season and has no points while averaging 15:25 of ice time per contest.
The Pens are in Philadelphia tonight to face the Flyers at 7.
Former Pirates manager Jim Leyland wins election to baseball’s Hall of Fame.
Leyland, 78, managed the Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies and Detroit Tigers over 22 seasons, winning 1,769 games (18th all-time) and finishing in first place six times. He led the Marlins to the 1997 World Series championship. Manager of the Year in 1990 and 1992 with the Pirates and 2006 with the Tigers, he managed in the postseason eight times and led his teams to three league pennants.
He also managed Team USA to the 2017 World Baseball Classic title. He is the only manager in history to win World Series and WBC titles.
The Rock
Kutztown University defeated No. 15 Slippery Rock University 28-16 in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Saturday.
Kutztown picked up its 12th win in a row and second over SRU in a stretch of three weeks to improve to 12-2 and set a new program record for single-season wins. The Bears advance to the national semifinals for the first time in program history. Slippery Rock sees its season end with a 12-2 record with both losses coming to Kutztown, which has now defeated SRU four straight times in the series.
Slippery Rock closes another successful season with the second-most wins in program history with a 12-2 overall record. The Rock reached the NCAA Playoffs for the fifth straight season, tied with Colorado Mines for the second longest active playoff streak in the country.
Penn State will play in the Peach Bowl against No. 11 Ole Miss, closing its 2023 season Dec. 30 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game will kick at noon and air on ESPN.
The Peach Bowl matchup between the SEC and Big Ten will be the first meeting between the teams.

Moniteau girls basketball
Catherine Kelly became the ninth girls’ basketball player in Moniteau school history to reach 1,000 career points. Kelly has a real shot at the school record of 1,445 points held by Alyssa Deal, who graduated in 2006. She is only 142 points behind her coach, Dee (Slater) Arblaster, who is second in school history with 1,157 points having graduated in 1984.
