The Slippery Rock University football team had seven players recognized on the Don Hansen Division II All-America team that was announced Tuesday.
The Don Hansen All-America team is the final All-America team to be released for the 2023 season. The team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away in 2010. Hansen started and published the Don Hansen National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades and has selected Division II All-America teams since 1988.
The Rock are represented on the second team by wide receiver Kyle Sheets, offensive tackle Yuriy Hryckowian and cornerback Josh Stokes. An additional four players earned Honorable Mention All-America recognition, including quarterback Brayden Long, safety Eddie Faulkner IV, tight end Kam Kruzelyak and offensive guard Colton Rossi.
Sheets, senior from Springboro, Pennsylvania, becomes a consensus All-American after being named to all five reputable Division II All-America teams. He was selected to first team Associated Press and American Football Coaches Association honors, was named to the second team by the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association and Don Hansen and was named to the “squad” by D2football.com. He becomes the third SRU player since 2017 to be named to all five All-America teams, following his former high school teammate and fellow receiver Henry Litwin in 2021 and all-time NCAA sack record holder Marcus Martin in 2017.
