Gas prices have continued to increase both locally as well as across the western Pennsylvania region as a whole during the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, jumped by seven cents to reach $3.61 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by 13 cents over the same period of time to reach $3.65. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $3.54, while the most expensive is in Uniontown at $3.70.
The average national gas price increased by 12 cents over the past week to reach $3.27. This is 19 cents more than a month ago and but 14 cents less than one year ago. Although both demand and oil prices dropped, the shutdown of a large refinery in Indiana due to a power outage has resulted in spikes in gas prices across the Midwest region.
