With the first two rounds of March Madness taking place in Pittsburgh, residents and fans attending games are being offered tips to avoid being scammed.
The Better Business Bureau of Western Pennsylvania says when buying tickets, purchase them from the venue or resellers that protect buyers. Resellers should have clear details about the terms of the transaction and how fake tickets will be refunded. Buyers are also told to research the website before the purchase.
They also say to purchase tickets with a credit card and never purchase tickets from resellers who ask for untraceable payment methods, such as gift cards, wiring money, or mobile cash.
Avoid unsolicited links and invitations to join bracket pools or groups you haven’t request to be in. Also, don’t fall for tempting ads by ignoring gambling related pop-ups, email spam, or texts.
Finally, participate with precautions, always go directly to the website your bracket is on and avoid providing personal information.
