A new law signed into Pennsylvania will honor the victims and tragedy from September 11, 2001 in schools while also providing course material.
The 9/11 Remembrance in Schools Law will direct the Pennsylvania department of education to develop course material for schools to use as curriculum around the impact of the 9/11 attacks.
Topics will include historical context of terrorism, the day of the attacks, the American recovery and response, and the global impact of the attacks. The information will be made public by the department of education and will not be required in schools.
The law does require on the anniversary of the attack every all Pennsylvania schools take a moment of silence to honor the victims, service members, and first responders.
The Department of Education will spend the next 12 months creating the curriculum before it is offered in schools.
