Bernice “Bernie” Ciochetto DeCola, 95, formerly of Butler, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Washington Hospital.
She was born August 19, 1928 in Murrinsville, PA. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Desolina (Caserio) Ciochetto.
Bernie graduated from Harrisville High School, class of 1946 and became a telephone operator in Glenshaw, PA, retiring after 24 years of service from Bell Telephone of PA. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Bernie married Theodore DeCola on June 7, 1952 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Forestville, PA. She was a long-time resident of Butler, but spent the last 10 years of her life near her daughter, Marianne, at Strabane Trails Village, an independent living facility in Washington, PA. Bernie enjoyed playing bingo and made many friends, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Center Township, Butler.
Surviving are her daughters, Pamela Anne and John Jaskot of Butler and Marianne D. and Michael Sprouse of Washington, PA.
3 grandchildren: Brandon and Stephanie Jaskot, Matthew Sprouse and Marissa Sprouse.
3 great grandchildren: Harper Hank, Madelyn Jaskot and Owen Jaskot.
Bernice was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amanda Jaskot Hank; her husband, Thoedore DeCola; brothers Louis, John, Charles and Reynold; sisters, Annie and Emma, also a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, at 10:00 am, St. St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Entombment to follow in the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
