The state police is releasing data from this past Fourth of July weekend and it shows more fatal crashes than last year.
Over the five-day holiday travel period, state police investigated 774 crashes. Of that number, 11 people died and nearly 250 were injured. In 2023, there were only three fatalities during the July 4th holiday weekend.
Police also say that alcohol played a role in 64 of those accidents, including four fatalities.
Troopers also made over 550 DUI arrests—which was up from last year’s 505 arrests.
State police also issued over 28,000 citations—a majority due to speeding.
