Joan A. Kelly, 88, of Butler, PA, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Butler, PA, on June 19, 1936, to the late Edward “Eddie” and Edna [McDowell] Rickard.
Joan graduated from Butler High School in 1954. She enjoyed working for Dr. Donald Nebel as an Optometric Assistant for 40 years, until her retirement in 2018, at the age of 82. Her family was her greatest joy. Joan was also a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Joan is survived by her five daughters, Kim Edwards (Mark), Nancy Smith, Amy Barkus (Paul), Lisa Guerre (John), and Tiffany Kelly (Tom); her fifteen grandchildren; her twenty-three
great-grandchildren; her brother, William Rickard (Kay); her brother-in-law, Biff McMillin; her numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Jack Brown.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years,
Robert L. Kelly, who passed away on August 13, 2002; and her sister, Nancy McMillin.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North Street, Butler, PA, 16001.
A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00am, with Pastor David Phillips of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.
A private burial will take place at Greenlawn Burial Estates & Mausoleum.
