Charles R. Day, 100, passed peacefully at the Butler VA Medical Center (CLC) on Oct. 12, 2024, following a brief illness.
Charles was born in Hillards, on Aug. 22, 1924. He had recently celebrated his Centenarian birthday with family.
He graduated from Concord Township High School in 1942.
Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army after High School. He served during World War II on the Pacific Front in New Guinea, the battle of Leyte, and in the Philippines as a medic, earning three bronze service stars.
After the war, Charles returned home to Pennsylvania, met Mary Agnes Houk on a blind date and was married on Oct. 15, 1949. They spent 62 years together before she passed in 2010. Charles spent his career working 18 years for Hull Resurfacing Co. as an equipment operator, Pullman Standard as a pattern maker during the winters, and 24.5 years at Armco Steel in the Melt Shop maintenance department. He retired in 1986.
Charles enjoyed woodcarving, hunting and fishing, tending his orchard and garden, watching football, and playing Words with Friends.
Charles R. Day is predeceased by his parents, John Heller and Wilda Aldene Day; his wife Mary Agnes Houk Day; an infant brother Eugene; his siblings,Carl Day, John S. “Jack” Day, Merle Day, Marian McGarvey, and Joe Earl “Posey” Day and his daughter, Barbara Day Kriner.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Richard (Beth) Day, Charles B. Day, Nancy (Ken) McKeever, Kathy (Kirk) Farra; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family of Charles R. Day, who died Saturday, October 12, 2024, will be received at Young Funeral Home, 127 W Jefferson St, Butler, PA on Thursday, Oct. 17th from 10 AM to the time of the funeral services at noon. Military Honors for Charles Day will follow at the Northside Cemetery in Butler.
