The sale of the Butler Area Sewer Authority to Pennsylvania American Water continues to progress closer to completion.
After the Commonwealth Court denied an appeal by the Summit and Center Townships that sought to stop the sale of the sewer system last month, City Council approved the final closing documents related to the sale. Council also repealed a section of an ordinance that required property sales to receive approval from BASA.
The City plans to hold a special public meeting on Monday at 10 a.m. to take more steps toward finalization. It’s expected that the sale will be finalized October 29th (Tuesday) at BASA as long as no further appeals of the decision are made.
Butler City and Butler Township both agreed to the $230 million sale last year, with the PUC approving the deal in November. The two municipalities will split the money from the sale.
