A stretch of I-80 was shut down for hours following a massive multi-vehicle crash that included multiple tractor trailers.
The accident happened in the eastbound lanes near the New Castle exit just before 5 p.m. Officials say a tractor trailer lost control and went off the road which led to a chain reaction crash, involving other tractor trailers and passenger vehicles.
I-80 was shut down in between the Sharon and Mercer exits. PennDOT said traffic was backed up for about three miles.
Crews were able to remove two tractor trailers, eventually allowing the backed up cars to get through.
I-80 reopened fully to traffic around 1 a.m.
