The Butler Transit Authority is moving forward with measures to protect bus drivers against possible danger from riders.
During their recent meeting, the authority board approved a Transit Worker Assault Risk Analysis as well as an update to the Transit Safety Plan that is shared by the Authority and driver contractor MV Transportation.
This is a new federal requirement and the most obvious change will come in the form of a partition to separate drivers from riders on all new buses, however no new buses are expected to join the Butler fleet for at least two or three years.
This move comes after a transit authority bus driver in the eastern part of the state was stabbed last year by a rider.
