The Pittsburgh Pirates added two left-handed relievers Monday. 30-year old Ryan Borucki returns to the organization for the third straight season after signing a minor-league deal. Borucki suffered through injury last season, pitching only 11 innings at the major league level, but went 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA out of the Pirates bullpen in 2023.
The Bucs have also added Tim Mayza who pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees last season. He struggled with the Blue Jays after being one of the best relievers in baseball over three previous seasons. Mayza was designated for assignment last July, but returned to the majors in August with New York. He pitched 18 innings with a 4.00 ERA for the American League East champions through the rest of the season.
