An ice storm is moving into Western Pennsylvania and these conditions can be very dangerous.
Freezing rain is in the forecast Wednesday night into Thursday morning according to Jason Frazier of the National Weather Service
“With the timing of the precipitation starting to the fall to the ground as rain, but unfortunately at the surface our air temperature is going to be cold enough where a lot of surfaces will be below freezing. What that leads to is that rain falls, hits the cold surfaces, and freezes, which creates what is the definition of freezing rain,” Frazier said.
Frazier also said that the time people will be most effected are overnight travelers and those making early morning commute.
“We’ll probably have most areas changing over where it won’t be freezing rain anymore by 7 to 8 a.m., but that being said we’ll still need a couple of hours after that for the ice to completely thaw on roads so we could see the impact for the morning commute,” Frazier.
