A project to update the water and sewage system at the AC Valley Industrial Park is moving forward.
Butler County Commissioners awarded contracts yesterday for the estimated $5.3 million project. A majority of the project will be covered through state and federal grants, however commissioners project a shortfall of at least $950,000.
The commissioners spoke with the businesses that comprise the industrial park about helping cover the cost. They say some showed interest, but not all.
Commissioners also say the remaining debt will eventually fall under the newly formed AC Valley Authority—which will most likely pass that cost to the businesses.
Construction is expected to begin within the month.
The AC Valley Industrial Park has eight businesses and employs roughly 600 people, which equates to about $30 million in payroll.
