Two men from Illinois have been charged in Butler after they allegedly stole over $10,000 after completing work at a local business.
Police say that 21-year-old Cody Frank and 47-year-old Jason Frank were able to break into the safe at Poo’s Place, a skills game store on Route 356 in Summit Township on May 25, 2023.
According to charging documents, after completing a sealing job across the street Cody asked where he could go to use the bathroom. He was directed to Poo’s Place when he was followed to by Jason.
While using the bathroom Cody unlocked a side door. Then Jason and he left the store and when everyone inside had left the two broke back in. They used screwdrivers and a pry bar on a safe before taking out around $15,250 and causing $1,000 in damages.
Surveillance footage was used to link the two to the crime. Illinois police say they are investigating similar crimes committed by the two.
Jason has been charged with two counts of conspiracy and Cody has been charged with burglary and theft by unlawful taking.
The two are awaiting a preliminary hearing in Butler.
