Sidney Crosby scored twice and Evgeni Malkin scored the other goal on former Penguin Marc-Andre Fleury. The Pens lost in Las Vegas 4-0 Friday night. They host Vegas Tuesday in Pittsburgh to begin a five-game home stand.
With Sunday’s victory, Mike Sullivan became the 14th NHL head coach, and first American-born head coach, to win 400 games with one franchise. Sunday’s game for Fleury was his 1,015th of his career, breaking a tie for the second-most in NHL history.
Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin scored his 886th career goal Sunday into an empty net to seal his team’s 4-2 victory over Seattle. Ovechkin is now nine goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record.
The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 5-3 Sunday to the Detroit Tigers in exhibition baseball. Andrew Heaney took the loss in his second outing as a Pirate. He allowed four earned runs in 2-1/3rd innings. Tommy Pham hit a home run and Joey Bart had three hits for the Bucs. The Pirates host Baltimore tonight at 6:05pm for their first home night game of the preseason in Bradenton.
