Margaret Marie Chaney Hoffman, age 100, of Butler, passed away Saturday evening, April 19, 2025, under hospice care at her granddaughter Farrah’s residence.
Born November 10, 1924 in Washington, PA; she was the daughter of the late Wilmot and Rozetta Sprowls Chaney.
She was a member of the St John’s Reformed Church, where in the past she was an Elder, a Sunday School Teacher, and served on the Board.
She worked in Education, and received her Bachelors degree and Masters degree at Penn State. She worked as an Ext Agent in Mercer County, and then 15 years as a Home Economics Teacher at Victory Joint High School in Clintonville, and lastly she served as a consultant in the Department of Education, serving Western PA and retiring in 1991.
Margaret enjoyed people and traveling. She served as the President of MARC Meridian Area Retired Citizen; former President of Butler Kiwanis and Butler County Home Economics Association, member of the Mt Chestnut Woman’s Club, and she belonged to the UCT United Commercial Travelers and the PASR Pennsylvania School Retirees. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to many leagues in the Butler area.
After retirement she was an avid traveler. She will be remembered for organizing many trips for over 20 years, both bus trips and over seas trips, for nonprofit organizations.
She is survived by her son Larry (Hope) Hoffman of Butler; grandchildren Farrah (Todd) McKinney, Jocelyn Williams, Brandon (Kayla) Hoffman, Rebecca (Hector) Villeges, Stefanie Cunningham; three step grandchildren Ashley (Joel) Steele, Kellie (Mark) Smedberg, Nathan (Sara) Walters; 7 great grandchildren; and 12 step great grandchildren; and her Chihuahua Chelsae.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Hoffman, whom she married August 30, 1947 and who passed away September 1, 2006; her daughter Sharon Reed; her brother Howard Chaney; and her beloved Maltese Bella.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 2pm to 6pm at the Raisley Funeral Home and Cremation Services, pc., 387 Main Street, Prospect.
Funeral Service will be on Thursday, April 24, 2025, 11am, at the St John’s Reformed Church, 494 Evans City Road, Butler, with Rev Jarrod Crawford, her church pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in St John’s Reformed Church Cemetery
