Butler City is considering a proposal to replace a fire truck that is at the end of its useful life.
Councilman in charge of Public Safety Larry Christy informed Council and the public about the situation with Engine 1 which is 21 years old and had to have over $10,000 in maintenance last year.
City Fire Chief Chris Switala met with four vendors and recommends an agreement with Glick Fire Equipment Company for a Pierce Saber Pumper in the amount of nearly $910,000 which includes some local customization. This is a basic model but would maneuver on city streets with no issues.
If Council votes to approve this agreement at their meeting on Thursday, they could expect to receive the new vehicle by the end of summer 2026. Council purchased a new ladder truck in fall of 2021.
