Born August 26, 1941, in Butler, he was the son of the late Paul C. Gyger, Sr. and the late Elizabeth (Burford) Gyger.
John was a graduate of Mars High School and went on to attend Penn State University where he earned his degree in engineering. He worked as an engineer for Butler Fabricating until his retirement. John enjoyed model railroading and going antiquing with his late wife, Carol. More than anything, John loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time at camp in Marionville and also boating at his camp along the river in East Brady.
John is survived by his son, Jay J. Gyger, of Saxonburg; his brother-in-law, William (Linda) Andrews; his sisters-in-law, Donna (Thomas) Roxbury and Tracy Andrews; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol J. Gyger, whom he married on June 14, 1963, and who passed away on September 22, 2007, and his brother, Paul C. Gyger, Jr.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 3-7 PM at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Bob Edmundson officiating.
He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Clinton U.P. Church Cemetery in Saxonburg.
